I ran a marathon last year and lots of my family and friends sponsored me then but even they have started giving now that I have completed it and I'm already on £600 with at least another £150 to come in so thank-you all very much. The Justgiving site remains open for donations for another 3 months. In the meantime if you want to see a video about the Justlife centre we run in Manchester that we are hoping to take to Brighton then National Lottery have paid for this... I had a bonus to get me started as I got to high 5 Gus as he was the celebrity starter of the Marathon. I told him he was a legend (and thought better than say that the team were a disgrace yesterday at West Ham. - or that would've been a low 6!) I finished it! I was really chuffed as I beat the 4 hour mark in 3h 56m 28s and was over 20 mins faster than my first marathon last year. The crowd was awesome and running down grand parade was a real high with the crowd a choir and the sun. Also it was great to see so many people I knew around the course from friends mum & dads to someone I knew handing out energy shots! Finally there was some poor CPFC fan in a pink Albion shirt running for REMF. Don't worry Gong he really hit the wall when I saw him at 20 miles and was struggling. Thanks again everyone for all your support - you've been amazing! nondisclosed_email@example.com (indiana gull)Mon, 16 Apr 2012 21:13:53 +0000 Re: Help a homecoming Idiot ?https://bbombmessageboard.runboard.com/p49370,from=rss#post49370https://bbombmessageboard.runboard.com/p49370,from=rss#post49370Thanks very much Roch - as ever you are all fantastic. When the centre opened in March 2011 we started intensive work with Dan, identifying and addressing issues: mental health, relationships, money-management, use of time, confidence, housing and physical health. Dan started coming to the Justlife centre everyday, which was only a few hundred metres from his hostel. Taking part in the cooking, gardening and computer workshops helped him build confidence and skills. The computer workshop also enabled him to write a CV and set up email. Dan hadn’t cooked in 2 years, so the cooking workshop taught him simple recipes and has given him the confidence to try them out. Improving in confidence and social skills, Dan started volunteering at Justlife two days a week. With new responsibilities and purpose, Dan began to thrive and continued to build skills through the volunteer training programme. Dan struggles with reading and writing therefore employment has always been difficult to apply to and gain. We helped Dan apply for and get a job! As well as working full time Dan still made time to come to drop-in sessions at Justlife. We have helped him apply for his own tenancy, and he should move shortly. We also helped him open a credit union account and he has so far saved £200. Dan said: “If I didn’t come here I don’t know what I would do. Nothing probably, drugs or just have a rubbish life. Justlife has given me stuff to do that has made me feel good about what I can achieve. It has been my lifeline for the last year. They really care about me. They’re always there.” (*name changed)   http://www.justgiving.com/AlastairJones42 nondisclosed_email@example.com (indiana gull)Tue, 20 Mar 2012 01:04:02 +0000 Help a homecoming Idiot ?https://bbombmessageboard.runboard.com/p48655,from=rss#post48655https://bbombmessageboard.runboard.com/p48655,from=rss#post48655I've never asked for money from the Board before...and won't do again unless it affects Brighton. Last year I ran my first ever marathon and in just under 4 weeks I am going to be running a Brighton Marathon on 15th April for the 2nd time for Justlife, a fantastic charity that is aiming to start delivering its amazing services to vulnerable adults in the glorious city of Brighton and Hove. I realise for many during the current climate it just isn't possible to donate so if that's you please ignore this thread now.   Thank-you for reading on... Although I have lived in Manchester for nearly 11 years Brighton is my spiritual and football home so it is even more appropriate for me to run in the Brighton Marathon to raise money for Justlife to help with the pilot of the charity there in partnership with local people. Please look at the Justlife website or read Dan's story below to see the impact Justlife are already having. I have paid for my race entry so all the money you give will not only help motivate me to reach the end but also hopefully make a huge difference in the lives of many. http://www.justgiving.com/AlastairJones42 Thank-you very much for any donation whatever the size!   Indiana nondisclosed_email@example.com (indiana gull)Tue, 20 Mar 2012 01:02:21 +0000
