Was It Any Better In May 2008?

While Wedgee's WD40 is working, thought I would take a peep at what was going on similar period in 2008 on this board.

Cannot say that the threads were any more inspiring then current ones, but they did attract more views and comments.

Again in the main the posters have not changed that much - a few have come and gone, but equally the main posters are as now, but maybe the Captain and Midland did a lot more posting and of course Locky is fully AWOL these days.

No doubt life and time circumstances have changed. And message boards now have to compete with other forms of social media. Even NSC, while may not notice due to numbers that still post, has certainly dropped in numbers visiting.

So back to period 16 - 19 May 2008, first 8 posts in this time period (page 248 if you want to check back) attracted an average of 12 posts and 70 views. First 8 posts on page 1 time period 11 - 20 May 2015 and we have an average of 4 posts a thread and 30 views.

Has the Amex just made us all soporific, content and lazy. Just roll up in our slippers to sit in the nice comfy seats?

The official message board pre - bomb was busier as it had a lot ofother clubs fans popping in and we had more banter and made friends with quite a few of them, but the board was updated and lost most of what we had built up and so bomb was formed but unfortunately we lost most of the irher clubs fans. And now we seem to retain the old hardcore with a few newbies from time to time being added.

I use Twitter a lot for instant news and feedback. Somehow got my self over 500 followers and I used the periscope app to broadcast the Watford game live for short bursts. I even caught their last goal going in which was a bit of a coup. I had over 50 people watching from around the world. So chesh is right there are now so many ways to keep up to date on The Albion that message boards will struggle.

Rochdale - That is some going 500 followers on twitter, yes and I am one of them! Find the whole twitter thing great to follow for up to date news and views, but never really got into the posting side of things - so anyone of my about 7 followers, you may have a long wait for the next post. lol

Think the message board concept will continue for a while as the vast generations of new home PC'ers exploring the world of message boards and discovering the Albion related ones will stick around. But new generations who have no idea of the world 15 or so years ago, when a home PC with dial up internet was not yet in the majority of homes, and 4G mobiles not even a twinkle in Steve Job's eye, will not be so enamoured by the concept.

Gong - First for me was NSC when it was originally set up by a fan in the Isle of Man to cover Fans United, and was the main and often only source of news about the struggles for me as an exile. Then I discovered you lot on the official site!

You are right - while we still keep going and enjoy the company and chat of this site, it has never really equaled what we had on the official site - where we not only generated money for the club through the traffic coming onto the board, but were allowed to moderate the site ourselves on behalf of the club!

I struggle to remember events in May this year, let alone that far back.

Sounds like my problem Hampton. Can remember some obscure things from yesteryear - talk to me about what happened three days ago and..............

..... think it is simply we are getting older!

I miss the official site, it was fantastic and really active, over the years it's gotten slower and slower and that sucks, a few have left after disagreements with other users ie. Indiana chap.

But I think it's as others have said, Twitter for me is the place to be, the most up to date news by miles and that's for everything not just BHAFC. Plus the lack of mobile site or app for this board makes it even more inconvenient, the only thing keeping me on here are the regulars who I've seen posts from for years and years.

I think with 24 hour news and the increase in social media platforms the role that the message board used to fill has been lost.

Also i think the club has lost some of its closeness since we arrived at corporate HQ, putting more distance between the club and the fans which in turn has put more distance between fans.

We used to be a small knit group, proud of the bond we all shared. Now it feels like there is too much distance between everything.

On a personal note life changes have restricted my access to the board, seems i am enjoying life far too much to be sat at my laptop.
